Description

From Book Cover Description:

Few stories of the Great War, and Gallipoli in particular, can stir the imagination as much as the futile charge at The Nek. Immortalized in film, the heroic attack by the Victorian 8th and the West Australian 10th Light Horse Regiments on 7th August 1915, is a story that is still being told 94 years after the event.

This history has not been told in its entirety before and is well over due. Max Emery whose great Uncle who served in the 8th Light Horse and was killed in Palestine, has corrected this omission and written the history of this famous regiment, tracing it back to its beginnings at Broadmeadows, the voyage to Egypt and arrival at Gallipoli in May 1915. The story of The Nek and other incidents relating to the Gallipoli campaign are recounted, often through the words of participants. Emery then takes the reader back to Egypt, through the Sinai, to Palestine and Syria, including battles such as Magdhaba, Gaza, Beersheba, and the capture of Jerusalum and Damascus.

They Rode Into History is a classic tale of heroism of men and horses under the terrible conditions in Egypt and Palestine, and is illustrated with over 80m photographs, maps and numerous appendices including Nominal Roll and Honour Awards.
