Description


The 42nd was a Queensland unit, first raised in late 1915 as the 36th Battalion, but then re-designated as the 42nd Battalion in early 1916. After three months training in England it landed in France on 26 November 1916 and fought on the Western Front for the remainder of the war. The Battalion suffered 1674 casualties of which 544 were fatal. The narrative gives good detail of places and events. and is a sound historical source.
