Hands to Boarding Stations: Foster, John.
Description
From Book Cover Description:
The story of minesweeper HMAS Hawk is the author's personal account of the ship's operations under his command. It recalls how men prepared for an unknown mission, which was about to be undertaken without any real understanding of the volatile political situation in South East Asia at the time. Periods of isolation and boredom, interrupted by tension and fear, were the norm. There were occasions of significant danger and in one incident the lives of his men and himself were at real risk when one of their own shipmates went berserk with an automatic weapon.
The activities of Australia's small warships during Indonesian Confrontation operations are not known by most Australian's. This book tells the story of one of them during nine months in South East Asia.
