This book is about leadership in the Australian Army, and in particular during World War II and Korea.

During a twelve month period in the Korean War, 3RAR had 3 Commanders, Green who was killed by enemy artillery, Ferguson who was removed from his command for reasons which are still debated, and Hassett who was widely regarded as a great Military leader, and a true "Officer and Gentlemen."

During these changes of command, 3 RAR successfully fought the battles of Kapyong and Maryang San.
